The Power of Community
The idea of community has been on my heart lately. I’ve watched people come together to support someone walking through an incredibly difficult season, and it made me wonder why does it take a crisis for community to show up? What if we all had a strong community before life became overwhelming?
As a nonprofit leader, I’m often asked what services Love Is provides. We offer mentoring, case management, educational classes, diapers, wipes, and other practical support. But the most important thing we provide, and the hardest to measure, is community. Many of our teen moms feel isolated from their peers who are focused on different stages of life. We often see young mothers arrive alone but quickly begin to build lasting friendships. They share advice, help each other find jobs, exchange baby items, and celebrate milestones together. They build meaningful relationships with caring mentors and a strong network of support begins to form. Our experience has shown that while education and resources matter, community is what creates lasting change.
Research consistently shows that strong social connections improve outcomes for young adults. Once trust and community are established, meaningful growth can happen. Community creates a sense of belonging, hope, and resilience. At Love Is, we’re not just meeting practical needs- we’re building a community where teen parents know they are never alone.
